The NIACS (National Individual Asbestos Certification Scheme) is the first and only UKAS accredited mechanism for individual asbestos inspectors which was launched to provide quality assurance to clients, in line with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002.
NIACS is a joint venture between ARCA (The Asbestos Removal Contractors Association) and RICS (The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors). NIACS operate as membership and registration body for individual asbestos inspectors.
The scheme is licensed by NIACS to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) who are accredited to ISO 17024 by the United Kingdom accreditation Service (UKAS) to certify individual asbestos inspectors as competent. CITB will provide the competency assessment and ongoing surveillance of individual asbestos inspectors. The entry requirement for entry on to the CITB competency assessment is the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (RSPoH) Level 3 Certificate in Asbestos Inspection Procedures.
After achieving the CITB Certificate of Competence in Asbestos Inspection Procedures individual asbestos inspectors are eligible to join NIACS and be entered onto the register.
